Trump signs “Executive Order on Safe Policing for Safe Communities.“

The Order:

- Specifies that grant funding will be allocated by the Attorney General only to law enforcement agencies that meet high standards (around use of force, de-escalation, and other factors) and are credentialed as such by reputable bodies;

- Provides incentives for law enforcement agencies to use nationwide database for purposes of tracking terminations, criminal convictions and civil judgements against officers who have engaged in excessive use of force; and

- Provides that the Administration will prioritize training and other programs for police and social workers responding to incidents involving the mentally ill, addicted, and homeless.
